In March, the 4th German-Israeli Wine Summit took place in Tel Aviv.
An event of the Twin Winery Initiative – where German and
German and Israeli wineries fraternise. There are now over 20 Twins
and thus many living ties and friendships between the two countries.
The event took place at the Yitzhak Rabin Center – in front of the imposing Tel Aviv skyline. The weather and the atmosphere were fantastic, as were the wines and conversations.
Besides a greeting by Dalia Rabin (daughter of Yitzhak Rabin) & Sandra Simovich (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), there were talks by Prof. Dr. Manfred Stoll (Geisenheim University), Prof. Dr. Zohar Kerem (Hebrew University), Adam Montefiore (Wine Writer, Jerusalem Post) and me.
It was a great honour for me to moderate the panel discussion on Riesling. On stage were such illustrious guests as Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com), Asaf Margalit (Margalit Winery, Israel), Doron RavHon (Sphera Winery, Israel), Johannes Selbach (Weingut Selbach-Oster, Germany), Kelby Russel (Red Newt Winery, Finger Lakes) and Zur Lester (Head Sommelier Restaurant “a” Tel Aviv).
It was again wonderful to meet so many great people and deepen friendships. Israel is always worth a visit.
